The holy Degel Machneh Efraim, the grandchild of the Baal Shem Tov, writes that when he was a child, the Baal Shem Tov called him over on Rosh Hashana, and described to him in great vivid detail how there are these Malachei Chabalah – the black angels, and how Avraham Yitzchak and Yaakov are standing on the side, bringing in merits. And Moshe Rabbeinu is standing there, and he's like a broker, making sure that nothing happens. And how the Neshamos are standing there crying "please give me mercy." And then the Baal Shem Tov asked him: "did I tell you a nice story?" And you realize an amazing idea: the Baal Shem Tov was the one who revealed to the world that Rosh Hashana is about accepting Hashem as king, and all the greatest secrets of Rosh Hashana. But for his grandchild he told a simple old-fashioned version; but he did it with love – "did I tell you a nice story?" Let's remember that the old yiddishkeit, when it's given over with love, is the best for children… Today.
